Visitor 549 is Wally Onewattle. For starters, he has only one wattle. It is not an injury- it just looks as though the second one never developed. He is a beautiful, healthy bouncing New Hampshire Red boy of just over 2 kilograms.

He crowed his first crow shortly after arriving here and it started out a bit goofy but has refined in to a lovely mellow low foghorn sounding a bit like an antique car. He crows very infrequently- a few times first thing in the morning and is otherwise quiet except for mumbles and grunts over the food dish.

His brilliant red, mahogany, auburn and amber feathers gleam like glass in the autumn sun. He has no spurs, but his wattle and comb are big. One wing was broken before he came to us and droops just a bit but the vet says it has healed well and will be just fine.

He is not at all fond of being held, possibly a bad experience having to do with his wing injury, but calms down once I have him in my arms. He has been alternately housed with MacNamara- an very young Ameracauna bantam rooster, and with Fauntleroy, an adolescent Thai rooster. Wally call s the shots in both cases and they respect him but there is no fighting whatsoever. Wally has the opportunity to roost high if he wishes but stays low- probably due to the bum flipper.

With some positive human interaction, he could be a really cool rooster buddy. Adopting him with either Fauntleroy or MacNamara would guarantee a compatible pair.
